Clay County Historic Sites will host its 16th Annual Ladies Spring Tea at historic Mt. Gilead Church in Kearney at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 26. This year’s event will highlight the history of aprons used during the Civil War. Participants will make felt totes and paper boxes.
“Our mission is to preserve local history. We try to offer programming focusing on that mission. Generally, the crafts we offer at the ladies teas are of an historic nature,” said Elizabeth Gilliam Beckett, Historic Sites Supervisor.
Participants are encouraged to bring or wear their favorite apron as they will delve into the history of aprons, with a focus on the Civil War era.
Space is limited for the spring tea; those interested are encouraged to register early. The cost is $10 per person and includes supplies for the planned crafts. Historic Mt. Gilead Church is located two miles west of Kearney, north on Plattsburg Road. For more information or to register for this event, contact Clay County Historic Sites at (816) 736-8500.
